Royals - 000 101 000 - 2 4 2

In only his fourth major league start, Henry Owens shut down the team with the second-best record in baseball: 8-4-2-1-4, 103. One of the runs was unearned.

Jon Shestakofsky notes that in the last 15 games, three Red Sox rookies have had outings of eight innings and one earned run allowed: Steven Wright (August 5), Eduardo Rodriguez (August 18), and Owens (August 21).

On the other side, the Red Sox battered Johnny Cueto for 13 hits in six innings (6-13-7-0-3, 96). It was the bottom of the order that did the most damage with the sticks, with Boston's 7-8-9 hitters going 8-for-12 and scoring six of the game's seven runs.

Blake Swihart went 4-for-4 (with two doubles), scored three times, and drove in two. ... Mookie Betts went 3-for-5. ... Josh Rutledge had two hits, including his first home run of the season, and two RBI. ... Rusney Castillo singled and tripled, and scored twice.
