Sox Shopping Crisp, Looking at Willis, Baldelli

The Red Sox have done "some background work" on lefty Dontrelle Willis (9.38 ERA in 8 games in 2008; due $22 million in 2009-10). The Tigers might be interested in Julio Lugo.

Sean McAdam reports that up to a half-dozen teams may be interested in Coco Crisp. ... The Red Sox are "more than intrigued" by Rocco Baldelli as the team's fourth outfielder.

Jason Bay, who will be a free agent at the end of 2009, "would be receptive to discussions of a long-term deal to remain in Boston".

I would be wary of Dontrelle Willis, especially with the performance he gave in Detroit this past year. But, it would be better to get him if it helped us get rid of Lugo, so it is pretty much a fair trade.

The Sox need to sign Bay long-term. He is a good defensive outfielder and has good offensive numbers. I am anxious to see what he can do in a full year in Boston.

I would like to see the Sox trade Coco to a team and get a respectable catcher in return if Varitek is not re-signed, or if Tek is re-signed possibly some bullpen help for Crisp.

I like the idea of Rocco Baldelli as a fourth outfielder too. It sounds like, with his mitochondrial disorder that being a fourth outfielder would be in his best interest in remaining healthy and staying in the big leagues, and the Red Sox's. Plus, he is quick and good with the bat.

Lugo for Willis? I guess there's more upside with Dontrelle.

It's about the same money . It is always hard to see an upside to a pitcher who stats have declined every year in the last 3...declined quick....

Maybe there's something the Red Sox can do for Willis. To try and get him turned back around. Lugo is Lugo, there's not much more you can do with him. But there's at least potential with Willis.
