I've had a crazy week and haven't been able to sit back and savour the victory. This morning, finally, I watched video - working my way backwards from the TV appearances, to the parade and rally, to the team coming back to Fenway, back to the win in Colorado.
My favourite clip was when the bus got to Fenway, and John Henry and Lucchino show the crowd the trophy, walk around with it, let people touch it, then hand it off to Papi. That was just beautiful.
Lucchino said, "John and I had to work so hard to carry that trophy and walk around with it, then to see Big Papi just hoist it over his head with one hand like it was a toy...!"
As far as I'm concerned, we can do this every year. It will never get old!!!
Apparently high school baseball is HUGE in Japan - in some areas, more popular than their professional teams.
When we saw Dice-K pitch in Toronto in April, we sat next to someone who had been his high school English teacher! He was a Canadian, just back from Japan with his Japanese wife and their new baby, and he ran down to Skydome to see his old student pitch.
He was telling us a lot about high school baseball there. It was fascinating.

What a small world! So I guess Dice K knew a little English before he got to the US. I think he will be even better next season with a year of adjustment under his belt and more familiarity with English and with US culture. I heard that Tek and John Farrell were taking Japanese in the off season to improve their ability to communicate with Dice K and Oki.
By the way, when I saw Okajima on TV during the parade, I was taken aback by how good looking he is when his face isn't hidden by a baseball cap!
