World Series Newspaper Exchange

UPDATE: It looks like the Globe is selling back issues (for example, you can buy a copy of the pennant-clinching edition here). After the series, there will likely be other dates available.

***

In 2004, I helped start a big newspaper exchange on SoSH that enabled Red Sox fans in many parts of the country (and world) get copies of newspapers from Boston and New York during both the ALCS and WS.

Now the Red Sox are on the verge of another World Series championship (!!!). Post in comments what papers, if any, you would be able to get for others and what papers you would like to have, along with an email address, and maybe we can do something similar in 2007 at JoS.

At this late date, this would likely be limited to the paper that reports the WS win (Monday if a sweep, Tuesday if in 5 games). Everyone can make their own arrangements with others for payment for the various papers and postage.

I would like copies of the Globe, Herald, Providence Journal, New York Times, New York Daily News, New York Post, New York Newsday, and the Denver Post. (And maybe others, if they are out there.)

I can buy copies of the Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail (a national Canadian paper). I can also get the National Post. I have never read the conservative Post, but I assume they are covering the WS.

My email address is joyofsox at gmail dot com.

I have VHS tapes of all ALCS and WS games.

No Courant for Allan? CT is New England, home of only one major league baseball team:)

I'm not sure this will work -- it might have been a fanciful idea at 2 in the morning. Though with PayPal, it could work.

All I *really* want is the two Bosto papers (as opposed to 2004, when I wanted everything in sight).

The shots must have been showing up by the time you posted that :)
IF it works out, it would be really cool for a NC boy to have a Boston Globe to rag his friends with, if not that's OK too. I'll still have my W-S Journal with the story under whatever Nascar news is at top :(

No one wants the Springfield Republican??? J/K

I can normally get copies of the Globe and Times (I never look for the tabs), but they may sell out quickly Monday, so I can't guarantee it. I am sure someone in Boston would be more likely to score a larger supply of the Globe and likewise for the Times by someone in NY.

(I am surprised there is no newsstand in Toronto that sells all the major papers. There's a newstand in Cambridge that sells the major papers from most cities in the US and other countries.)

There probably is, but I don't know about it.

Allan, you just created a lot of work for people with access to the Globe. I think everyone should just enjoy the moment to the fullest, save whatever newspapers are in their area, and call it a day.

If I recall from 2004, you can call the Globe and order a paper. Or they may make them available for purchase later.

You know, I just remembered Hotalings - one of the largest international newsstands in the world, formerly in Times Square - went out of business.

Googling, I learned that it closed its doors to retail in 1999. It's now only a wholesale provider.

This makes me wonder if Toronto has such a place, or if the internet makes it irrelevant. I posted about it, I'm sure someone will tell us.

Try Union Station in TO, lower level newstands. Also, I recall a place on Yonge a couple of blocks up from Front St. that had all international papers. Might be a day late, but maybe you can get "the guy" to save one for you.

I'd like a copy of the Joy of Sox, please. 10 years from now, we'll all be asking, "what's a print newspaper?" anyway. Joy of Sox is one of the few newspapers that matters.

If anyone could hook a displaced Sox fan in AZ up with a copy of the globe and herald that morning that would be great..... conrey@chrisconrey.com

There's a few grocery stores in the area that usually sell foreign papers. I know there's one in Hamilton (Fortinos - a Loblaws owned store) that has them.

I'm heading to the Superstore today (also a Loblaws owned store) and will check if they have it. If not, redsock maybe we could set up some sort of thing where you get an extra copy of the Globe and Herald and mail them over to me? Since we're so close.

As woti mentioned, newsstands in Union would probably have them. There's definitely places in toronto where you can get them as well...maybe do a bit of googling on the subject...

I know the Kitchener market also has them, but I don't think it's open daily.

No answers yet on wmtc. FWIW, I think everyone should buy her/his own copy through the Globe.

There are some answers now.
