BlogWatch

Paul at YFSF has some nifty post-season Beckett stats.

Beth of Cursed to First has a nice Cabin Mirror photo and some observations on Beckett's jawing with Grandpa Lofton.

Katie and Kelly at Papel-blog offer The Josh Beckett Press Conference Drinking Game.

BP's Jim Baker compiles the best pitching performances in elimination games.

Jere wonders why Fox isn't obsessing on the Indians' championship drought:
When the Tribe, mere innings away from a possible pennant, started missing balls and walking in runs, why didn't Fox start to show close-ups of faces and talk about the "ghosts of the past" easing their way into the park to cause more heartbreak for these poor, cold, pitiful Clevelanders? Where was that talk? ... Instead, I see a fucking Babe Ruth "curse" sign, three years after the damn fake curse was "broken" anyway. Dumb shits.
Andrew loves Manny and hates the CHB.

Manny postgame interview

He basically answers "Whatever happens happens" to every question...features some humor as (I think) Tavarez and (maybe) Ortiz kid around with him during the interview

A good omen: the four Game 6s that have been played at Fenway Park have all been Red Sox wins: 1918 WS vs. CHI; 1967 WS vs. STL; 1975 WS vs. CIN; 1986 ALCS vs. CAL.

And I think we all know how Curt Schilling did in his last Game 6...

People are starting to call Beckett “Big Game,” but saving your team when it’s down goes beyond that, because all postseason games are “big.” Two outings of this quality in this situation from one pitcher requires he be given a nickname of more messianic proportions.

Suggestions?

Thanks for the link.

Tim, this was the interview I mentioned here last night--the visual was hilarious, Manny laying there, and it was Papi and Lugo amongst the reporters, at least in the part they showed.

Hey, I hear Jhonny Peralta's etsranged, aubsive ftaher is throwing out the first ball at Fenway tomorrow night. Coincidence?

Just got an email from my mom...

Our Father, who art at Fenway...
Baseball be thy game,
Thy kingdom come,
Playoffs need to be won,
On Earth, then on to the Cask 'n' Flagon.
Give us this day, a perfect Papi,
And forgive us our losses,
As we forgive those,
Like Eric Gagne.
And lead us not, into desperation,
But deliver us from any losses.
For thine is the Power,
And the Glory,
To beat the Indians,
Forever and ever.....the Yankees suck.

Amen

I'll forgive Gagne if and only if said losses are forgiven.

Did anyone see the '2007 World Series' towels that Indians fans were waving last night? They showed a fan up close on FOX last night waving one.

Rosenthal:

When Beckett barked at Indians left fielder Kenny Lofton and Lofton chirped back and the benches cleared Thursday night, plate umpire Gary Cederstrom jumped in front of the pitcher, telling him, "Not a word, not a word, not a word."

Beckett complied, escaped a two-on, two-out jam later in the inning, then walked off the field and told an Indians fan behind the Red Sox dugout to "Go ---- yourself."

If the Red Sox win these next two games, I'd love to wait right until, just before the final out Sunday night, and order one of those t-shirts. Then maybe wander around the streets of Cleveland sometime with it on.

Or, if I don't feel like getting shot, then I'll wander around here wearing it.
