Beckett Signs Extension Through 2009

Josh Beckett, who was arbitration-eligible at the end of this season, has signed a three-year contract extension, at a guaranteed $30 million.

Gordon Edes has the numbers:
Signing bonus - $2 million
2007 - $6 million
2008 - $9.5 million
2009 - $10.5 million
2010 - $12 million club option
The 2010 option is automatic if Beckett makes 28 starts in 2009 or makes a total of 56 starts in 2008 and 2009. There is also a $2 million buyout clause on the option.

At the end of 2010, Beckett will be only 30 years old.

Love this contract. A slight home town discount which is made up by giving him that 2 mil signing bonus. Now if we could only get Schilling to stay till 2008!

I don't think getting Schill will be too hard, he seems to love the fans and the media...or maybe I'm just naive. -Mulceber
